Musculoskeletal Conditions We Assess

HealthiClinic’s Joint and Musculoskeletal Clinic assesses conditions affecting the joints, tendons, muscles and related soft tissues, including osteoarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, selected tendon and fascia conditions, shoulder and rotator cuff conditions, and persistent musculoskeletal pain.

Where the diagnosis is unclear, the appropriate pathway is based on the affected body region, symptom pattern, function, clinical findings and any relevant existing imaging. A musculoskeletal assessment can help clarify the most appropriate next step.

Find Information by Condition

  • Osteoarthritis — joint pain, stiffness and reduced function affecting one or more joints.
  • Knee osteoarthritis — knee-specific symptoms, assessment and management considerations.
  • Tendon and fascia conditions — selected shoulder, elbow, hip and knee tendon presentations.
  • Shoulder and rotator cuff conditions — shoulder pain, reduced movement and selected rotator cuff presentations.
  • Persistent musculoskeletal pain — symptoms that continue, recur or have not improved as expected.
  • Foot and ankle conditions — dedicated podiatry pathways for Achilles, plantar fascia, heel, foot and ankle presentations.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis affects the whole joint and can contribute to pain, stiffness and reduced function. The severity of symptoms does not always correspond directly with changes seen on X-ray or other imaging, so clinical decisions consider function, examination findings, health factors and personal goals as well as imaging.

The dedicated osteoarthritis page explains the broader assessment and management pathway for osteoarthritis affecting different joints.

Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis can make walking, stairs, exercise and other everyday activities more difficult. Assessment focuses specifically on the knee, symptom pattern, lower-limb function, previous treatment and relevant imaging when available.

The knee osteoarthritis page covers assessment and management considerations specific to the knee rather than repeating the broader osteoarthritis information.

Tendon and Fascia Conditions

HealthiClinic assesses selected tendon-related conditions affecting areas such as the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee.

Assessment considers where symptoms occur, how they respond to activity and loading, functional limitations, previous treatment and relevant clinical findings. Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound may be considered when it is likely to answer a specific clinical question or influence management.

Foot and ankle tendon or fascia presentations are covered separately through HealthiClinic’s podiatry service.

Shoulder and Rotator Cuff Conditions

Shoulder pain can arise from several structures, including the rotator cuff, bursa, joint and surrounding tissues. Assessment considers the history of the problem, movement, strength, function and relevant examination findings rather than relying on scan findings alone.

HealthiClinic assesses selected presentations including rotator cuff-related shoulder pain, tendinopathy, bursitis, reduced movement, osteoarthritis and activity-related shoulder symptoms.

Persistent Musculoskeletal Pain

Persistent musculoskeletal pain may continue beyond the expected recovery period or remain difficult to explain from a single tissue or imaging finding.

Assessment reviews the symptom history, effect on daily function, previous treatment, relevant investigations and other factors that may be contributing to the presentation. The next step may involve musculoskeletal rehabilitation and training, further investigation, medical review or another clinical pathway.

Foot and Ankle Conditions

Foot and ankle presentations are assessed through HealthiClinic’s podiatry service. Dedicated information is available for conditions including:

  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Plantar fasciitis and plantar fasciosis
  • Chronic heel pain
  • Foot and ankle arthritis
  • Other selected foot and ankle conditions

Not Sure Which Appointment You Need?

You do not need a confirmed diagnosis before contacting HealthiClinic.

If symptoms are persistent, recurring or the next step is unclear, it helps to tell the clinic:

  • which body region is affected;
  • how long symptoms have been present;
  • whether symptoms began suddenly or gradually;
  • which activities are difficult;
  • whether you have previous imaging or reports; and
  • what activities or functions you would like to return to.

The clinic team can use this information to guide you towards an appropriate first appointment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What musculoskeletal conditions does HealthiClinic assess?

HealthiClinic’s Joint and Musculoskeletal Clinic assesses selected joint, tendon, muscle and soft-tissue problems, including osteoarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, tendon and fascia conditions, shoulder and rotator cuff conditions and persistent musculoskeletal pain. Dedicated podiatry pathways are available for selected foot and ankle presentations.

No. An existing diagnosis can be helpful, but it is not required for every appointment. Where the cause of symptoms remains uncertain, a musculoskeletal assessment can help clarify the likely diagnosis and whether further investigation or another pathway should be considered.

Not routinely. Bring any existing imaging or reports you already have. New imaging is considered when it is likely to answer a relevant clinical question or change management. Where appropriate, the clinic can arrange diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound.

HealthiClinic has dedicated podiatry pathways for Achilles tendon pain, plantar fascia problems, chronic heel pain, foot and ankle arthritis and other selected foot conditions.

The clinic considers the affected body region, symptoms, clinical question, referral information and any relevant imaging. You do not need to choose a practitioner before contacting HealthiClinic.
